Seated Liberty Quarter Value Guide

Minted from 1838-1891

The Seated Liberty Quarter was minted from 1838 to 1891, with a design by Christian Gobrecht that mirrors the Seated Liberty Dime. The obverse features Lady Liberty seated on a rock, holding a shield and a staff with a Liberty cap, while the reverse displays an eagle.

The Seated Liberty Quarter is a popular coin among collectors, particularly for its long mintage period and various subtypes.

Throughout its production, the Seated Liberty Quarter saw several design changes, including the addition of drapery on Liberty's left elbow, the removal and reintroduction of arrows at the date, and the addition of the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on a banner above the eagle.

These modifications resulted in different subtypes, offering collectors a diverse array of coins to pursue. Some notable rarities include the 1842-O Small Date and the 1853/4 overdate issues, which are highly coveted by numismatists.
