Braided Hair Liberty Head Cent Value Guide

Minted from 1839-1857

The Braided Hair Liberty Head Cent was produced by the United States Mint from 1839 to 1857. It was designed by Christian Gobrecht, who also designed the Seated Liberty series of coins.

The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Liberty with braided hair, wearing a coronet or headband with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it. The reverse features a wreath and the words "ONE CENT" in the center.

In 1857, the design of the one-cent coin was changed again to feature the Flying Eagle design, marking the end of the Braided Hair Liberty Head Cent production.

In terms of value, the Braided Hair Liberty Head Cent can range from a few dollars for a lower-grade example to thousands of dollars for a high-grade, rare variety. The value of the coin is determined by factors such as its rarity, condition, and historical significance, as well as current market demand.

The Braided Hair Liberty Head Cent is an important piece of American numismatic history and represents a period of significant growth and change in the United States. Its design is elegant and intricate, making it a popular choice among collectors.
