Minted from 1999-2009
The 50 States and Territories Quarter program ran from 1999 to 2009, featuring unique reverse designs for each of the 50 U.S. states and 6 territories. The obverse maintained the familiar portrait of George Washington, while the reverse showcased designs that celebrated the history, culture, and symbols of each state and territory.
This innovative program introduced many people to coin collecting and remains popular among collectors today.
Each state and territory quarter was minted for a limited time, in the order of their statehood or territorial establishment. With a total of 56 different designs, the program offered a wide variety of subjects and artistic styles, making it an exciting challenge for collectors.
Some collectors focus on obtaining one example of each design, while others seek out higher-grade specimens or those with unique mint errors or variations.
